Salma Islam made new chairman of Jamuna Group
Advocate Salma Islam MP has been made the new chairman of Jamuna Group, after the death of her husband and the conglomerate's founder chairman Nurul Islam Babul.
She had earlier served the company as a vice-chairman. The publisher of "Dainik Jugantar", Salma Islam is a former state minister for women and children affairs.
She has been involved in the legal profession since 1991 as a senior lawyer in the Dhaka District Judge's Court, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court and the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
Jamuna group – under the leadership of Babul – has provided the people with hand sanitisers at an affordable price, and the front liners with good quality personal protective equipment (PPE) to fight the pandemic. He also donated Tk10 crore to the prime minister's coronavirus relief fund to help the people of this country fight this deadly virus.
