China asks US to adjust its position on Israel-Palestine conflict
The Security Council has been unable to talk in one voice on Palestine due to US obstruction
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Palestine has urged the United States to "adjust" its stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
He said that the Security Council has been unable to talk in one voice on Palestine due to US obstruction, reports Anadolu Agency.
"We call upon the US to shoulder its responsibilities, taking adjust position," said the Chinese top diplomat.
In the wake of Israel's attacks on Gaza, the UNSC held an open debate on the tensions between the two countries, but no concrete conclusions were drawn.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, US Ambassador to UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, UK Permanent Representative to UN Barbara Woodward, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, French representative Nicolas de Riviere, along with Palestine and Israel representative voiced their opinion.
World outrage had already grown following an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Sunday that destroyed several homes and killed 42 people, including 10 children, according to Palestinian health officials, as well as ongoing rocket attacks on Israeli towns.
At least 192 people, including 58 children and 34 women, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the latest violence began a week ago.
