2 red-noticed human traffickers arrested in Bangladesh, Italy
One is in CID custody while the other is awaiting extradition
Two Bangladeshi human traffickers facing Interpol red notices have been arrested in Italy and Bangladesh.
Assistant Inspector General for the National Central Bureau at police headquarters Mohiul Islam said Jafar Iqbal was arrested in Italy after Interpol issued a red notice against him.
The Italian police informed Bangladesh of Jafar's arrest through Interpol on 10 January.
Bangladesh Police are now taking measures to bring him back to the country.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara division Deputy Commissioner Sohidullah said they arrested Shahdat Hossain in the Dhaka airport area.
Shahdat was handed over to the Airport Police Station and was later sent to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody because he had a red notice issued against him by the Interpol in a human trafficking case.
A red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. It is published by Interpol at the request of a member country, and must comply with Interpol's constitution and rules.
