9 killed in Panchagarh, Keraniganj road crashes
Four passengers and the driver of the easy bike died instantly on the spot, said local people
At least nine people were killed in separate road accidents in Panchagarh and Keraniganj on Friday.
A head-on collision between a bus and an easy bike in Magurmari area on the Panchagarh-Tentulia Highway claimed seven lives, while two were killed as a truck hit a motorcycle in Keraniganj.
The seven deceased in Panchagarh road crash are the easy bike driver Rafiq, 28, and passengers Mukti, 19, Akbar Ali, 70, his wife Nurima, 55, Makud, 45, Labu, 27 and Nargis, 45, said Officer of Special Branch of Police Abdur Razzak Mian.
The Tentulia-bound bus from Panchagarh town rammed the easy bike coming from the opposite direction in Magurmari area when the bike was taking a U-turn.
Four passengers and the driver died instantly on the spot, said local people.
Three other critically injured passengers were rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital. One of them died on the way to the hospital.
Agitated local people swooped on the fire service men when they tried to rescue the injured people, said officer of Panchagarh Fire Station Niranjan Sarker.
They also vandalised an ambulance of Adhunik Sadar Hospital, said Medical Officer of the hospital Mansur Alam.
Later, the agitating people put barricades on the highway.
In Keraniganj, two people were killed as a truck hit a motorcycle in Ruhitput area at around 2pm.
The deceased are -- Asadul Huq Ipu, 40 and his son Sohan, 6.
Sohan's mother Reshma, 40, who sustained injury in the accident, said she along with her husband and son were going to her in-law's house riding the motorcycle. A truck hit the motorbike from behind in Rohitput Kurahati area, leaving the three injured critically.
Local people sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctor declared Asadul and Sohan dead at 3 PM.
Officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station Shaker Mohammad Zubaer said police seized the truck, but the driver managed to flee.
