Bangladesh determined to achieve SDGs: Planning minister
We should work in a way that ensures economic development as well as environmental protection, Minister Mannan said
Planning minister MA Mannan has said the government is highly determined that Bangladesh will achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the stipulated timeframe.
The government has taken up several projects to achieve all the 17 goals set in the global agenda, he said.
The minister came up with the observation while addressing a seminar styled 'Achieving Sustainable Development Goals' at the National Press Club on Monday.
M A Mannan said that the government is committed to achieving the SDGs by 2030 in line with its vision to turn the country into a developed one by 2041. "For this, we all should work together," he added.
Minister Mannan said we should work in a way that that ensures economic development as well as environmental protection. "At present, our economic growth is one of the exemplary ones across the globe. As a result, we are capable of spending more money for achieving the SDGs," he added.
At the seminar, Kazi Reazul Hoque, former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, said the government has successfully achieved the millennium development goals (MDGs). Now it is working to achieve the SDGs, he added.
He called upon the people to come forward and work together with the government to achieve the SDGs.
Muhammad Zamir, former ambassador and also a political analyst said, if a country wants to move forward, it must ensure global standards in all sectors. Equal opportunity for every citizen would ensure the achievement of SDGs, he said.
