Locals blocked the road following the accident and demanded that a speed breaker be constructed
Six people were killed, and two others injured, on Monday after a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus hit a charger-run van on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway.
The accident took place at the Pochish Mile area under Birganj upazila, Officer-in-Charge of Birganj Police Station Abdul Motin told The Business Standard.
The Rangpur-bound BRTC bus hit the van from behind at around 2pm, according to police and eyewitnesses.
Four passengers of the van were killed on the spot while two others died on their way to the hospital, said police.
Besides, two other passengers of the van sustained severe injuries and have been admitted to the M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur.
Some 10 to 12 passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries as the bus ran into a road-side tree after hitting the van.
