Bus helpers attempt to sexually harass CU student
The student later posted a status on Facebook, writing about her horrific experience
The helpers of a Shohagh Paribahan bus on Cox's Bazar-Chattogram route allegedly attempted to sexually harass a female student of the University of Chattogram on Wednesday.
The student later posted a status on Facebook, writing about her horrific experience.
"I was returning to Chattogram from Patiya on a Shohagh Paribahan bus when one of the helpers came to me to collect fare and asked me my destination," she wrote.
"I told him that I would go to Chattogram gate no 2 and asked him where should I get off from the bus. He suggested that I get off at the terminal and then asked me if I was alone.
"As I was preparing to get down from the bus at the terminal, the helpers suddenly told me they would drop me at gate no 2," wrote the student.
She wrote that she became suspicious and wanted to get down from the bus but the helpers closed the door. She tried to call 999 but they snatched her bag.
At one stage, the student started to scream and the bus driver stopped the bus to let her get down.
"As I got upset, I forgot to check the number plate of the bus," the Facebook post concluded.
The female student told The Business Standard that her family would file a general diary with Chandgaon Police Station soon.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon Police Station, said, "We heard about the incident but have not received any official complaint yet. We are trying to contact the victim."
Chattogram University Proctor Monirul Hasan said, "We will help the student with initiating legal procedure once we talk to her."
