Chattogram City Corporation to build Asia’s largest slaughter house
Cost of construction estimated at Tk80 crore
Chattogram City Corporation is building Asia's largest state-of-the-art slaughter house on an 88-decimal plot of land in the Chandgaon area of the port city.
The cost of construction has been estimated at Tk80 crore. The slaughterhouse will be financed by the World Bank, a press release said.
The press release also said a group of delegates from the World Bank have inspected the site where the slaughter house will be built. The delegates were World Bank's Environment specialist Istiak Sobhan, Social Safeguards Specialist Md Akhtaruzzaman and Chief Technical coordinator Dr Md Golam Rabbani. They expressed satisfaction after inspecting the place.
They met Chattogram city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin later.
A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Chattogram City Corporation and the Department of Livestock Services on this issue.
Rafiqul Islam, the public relations officer of the city corporation, said it will be the largest slaughter house in Asia, and that 100 animals can be slaughtered there per day.
