8 killed in Sylhet road crash
Eight people including a physician were killed and 15 others were injured following head on a collision between two buses on Sylhet-Dhaka highway in Rashidpur area of Sunamganj's Dakhshin Surma upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rahima Begum, Salman Khan, 28, of Sunamganj district, Nurul Amin, 50, Brahmanbaria district, Sagor, 19, Manjur Ahmed Manju, 35, Jahangir Hossain, 30, Doctor Imran Khan Rumel, 48, physician of Sylhet Women's Medical College, Shah Kamal, 45 of Sylhet districts.
Md Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Surma Police Station, said that the accident took place around 7am as the Sylhet-bound 'London Express' bus and Dhaka-bound 'Ena Paribahan' bus collided, leaving four dead on the spot and 19 others injured.
Among the injured, three died on the way to hospital and another died at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The accident occurred as the 'London Express' bus was moving in wrong side, according to sources of fire service.
The accident also halted vehicular movement on the highway for two hours.
