Charge framed against 6 in Abhijit murder trial

A Dhaka court on Thursday indicted six people, including sacked military officer Maj Sayed Ziaul Haque Zia, in a case over the murder of blogger and writer Avijit Roy.

Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge Md Mujibur Rahman initiated the trial process by reading out the charges to the accused.
The five other people charged in the case are Abu Siddique Sohel alias Shahab, Mozammel Hossain alias Saymon alias Shahriar, Arafat Rahman alias Siam, Shafiur Rahman Farabi, and Akram Hossain alias Abir alias Adnan.
All of them were leaders and activists of the banned militant group Ansar Al Islam.
On February 26, 2015, US-based Bangladeshi blogger Abhijit Ray was hacked to death by a gang of assailants near Dhaka University’s TSC building during the Ekushey Book Fair. His wife Rafida Ahmed Banya was also seriously wounded in the attack.
Later, the victim’s father Prof Dr Ajay Roy filed a murder case at Shahbagh police station.
