DIG prisons Partha Gopal files exoneration plea with HC
He was arrested on 28 July, 2019, after Tk80 lakh was recovered from his Bhooter Goli residence in the capital
Suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Partha Gopal Banik, who was arrested with Tk80 lakh from his residence, has filed a review petition with the High Court (HC) seeking exoneration from the graft case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Partha Gopal's lawyer Golam Rabbani filed the petition with the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder, said Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik on Sunday.
On 28 July, 2019, the anti-graft watchdog arrested Partha Gopal Banik, DIG (prisons) of Sylhet Central Jail, after Tk80 lakh was recovered during a raid at his house in the capital's Bhooter Goli area.
Later, the ACC filed a case against him on charges of irregularities and corruption.
After investigation, the ACC submitted chargesheet in the case to a Dhaka court on 24 August last year.
Following this, Partha Gopal on 4 November last year, pleaded the Special Judge's Court-10 of Dhaka seeking exoneration from the charges brought against him.
But being refused from that court, he filed this review petition with the High Court seeking exoneration.
