Facebook ID hacker put on 2-day remand
The Cyber Security and Crime Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Md Kawsar from Cumilla on Wednesday
A Dhaka court on Friday placed a Facebook account hacker on 2-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act 2018.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted the remand after Azharul Islam, a sub-inspector at the Mohammadpur Police Station, applied for a 10-day remand.
The Cyber Security and Crime Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Md Kawsar, an alleged Facebook ID hacker, from Cumilla on Wednesday.
Kawsar is also known in other names, including Kausin, Zisan, Soleman Khan, Alif, Mukul Das, Kamrul Islam, Sayer Mohammad and Moslem Khan, according to a press release of the crime division.
A social media monitoring team led by Cumilla Superintendent of Police Mishuk Chakma conducted a drive at the Shahid Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Hostel in Kotbari upazila the district and arrested Kawsar.
The team seized from Kawsar's possession two mobile phones, Tk5 lakh in cash and more than Tk77,000 in his mobile banking account.
He used to hack Facebook accounts by sending suspicious links and demanded money from the victims by threatening them of posting vulgar photos, videos and status on their timelines.
Several victims have already sent him money through bKash accounts.
A female victim filed a case in this connection with the Mohammadpur Police Station in September last.
Police found details of around 200 hacked Facebook accounts, including the plaintiff's one, in the smartphone of the hacker.
Kawsar confessed to his crimes, said the police.
