Gias Quader jailed for threatening Sheikh Hasina with life

A Chattogram court today sentenced BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury to three-year rigorous imprisonment for issuing life threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Qaisar passed the order on Wednesday noon.
General Secretary Chittagong's Fatikchhari Upazila Awami League Nazim Uddin Muhuri filed the case against Gias. On May 31, 2018, a Chittagong court issued an arrest warrant for him.
Five cases were filed with the Judicial Magistrate's Court, one with Fatikchari police station and two in the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for making defamatory remarks on the prime minister.
After surrendering in all cases, he was sent to jail on November 22, 2018. Later, the court granted him bail in May this year.
According to the case statement, Giasuddin said, "Sheikh Hasina's condition will be worse than her father. There will be none to mourn for her death like Bangabandhu."
