HC asks BNP’s Shahidul to surrender in rice embezzlement case

The High Court today ordered the former whip of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Syed Shahidul Haque Jamal to surrender before lower court in a rice embezzlement case.
The HC bench of justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukdar and KM Hafizul Alam passed the order.
The court also issued a rule asking why the lower court order, that acquitted him from a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, should not be stayed.
On October this year, a lower court acquitted him from the embezzlement case.
On 2009, the then Deputy Director of the Barisal Anti-Corruption Commission Wazed Ali Ghazi filed 20 separate cases against 19 accused for embezzling 300 tonnes of rice allocated for poor people.
On August 1, 2012, a charge sheet was submitted showing the former whip Shahidul Haque Jamal as the prime accused in 20 cases.
