HC rules asking why Erfan Selim would not be granted bail

The High Court (HC) has issued a rule asking why Mohammad Erfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim, should not be granted bail in the case of attempted murder of the naval officer.
A bench comprising High Court Justices Jahangir Hossain Selim and Md Badruzzaman passed the order on Wednesday after hearing the case.
Deputy Attorney General Md Bashir Ullah was present at the hearing on behalf of the state in court. He was accompanied by Assistant Attorney Generals Mohammad Shaheen Mridha, Mizanur Rahman Khan Shaheen and Mohammad Shafayat Jamil.

Erfan was arrested from his father's residence on Devdas Lane in Old Dhaka for "attacking" Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy.
Wasif filed a case over the assault at Dhanmondi Police Station naming four people and several unnamed accused. The three other accused are -- AB Siddique Dipu, 45, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30. All four are now behind bars.
According to the case statement, a private car hit Wasif's motorcycle near Labaid Hospital at Dhanmondi around 7:45pm on 25 October of last year when he and his wife were returning to their Mohammadpur residence from Nilkhet.
Later, some people came out of the car and physically assaulted the navy official and verbally abused his wife.
Erfan has been suspended from the post of councillor for assaulting the Navy official.
