Journo sued by ex-wife under digital security act
The Bangladesh Police Cyber Unit will investigate the charges against Manjur
A journalist was sued on Thursday by his ex-wife under the Digital Security Act for alleged involvement in harassment by posting “fake nude photos” on social media.
Sayeda Sultana Ferdous filed the case against Md Manjur Alam Khan alias Tapan Khan, chief reporter of The Asian Age.
Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hussain of Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal has ordered the Cyber Unit of Counter Terrorism Unit of Bangladesh Police to investigate the charges.
The judge also set August 29 for submitting the report.
Advocate Sanaul Islam Tipu -- a counsel for the complainant -- confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The victim made a statement before the court saying that the accused started harassing her psychologically after their divorce. Manjur also reportedly threatened his wife and children.
The accused also posted many nude photos of Sayeda from a Facebook account opened with her daughter’s name, she said in her statement, adding that Manjur sent many nude photos of Sayeda to her relatives, including her 15-year old child via Facebook.
He also allegedly posted defamatory comments against his wife on social media.
