5 detained for issuing fake Covid-19 reports with testing
Police conducted the drives after receiving complaints from some of the patients who fell victim to their mishaps
Police on Tuesday detained five people from capital's Ashkona and Gulshan 2 for their alleged involvement in providing Covid-19 test results without testing the samples.
Three of the detainees are - Humayun Kabir, 34, Tanjina and Ariful Chowdhury.
This gang used to get Tk5-10 thousands from each of their victims.
According to police, they used to collect samples from patients with Covid-19 symptoms from their home. But they didn't have any lab to diagnose the samples. They just wrote the reports on the computer and sent those to the patients.
They prepared the reports based on the symptoms shown by the victims. If the victims showed symptoms close to Covid-19, they gave them positive reports. Similarly, when the victim did not show a symptom, they received Covid-19 negative reports.
"We found fake coronavirus test reports on the computer seized during the drive," Mahmud Khan, assistant commissioner of the DMP's Tejgaon zone told The Business Standard.
"During the primary interrogation, they confessed about providing fake Covid-19 reports to at least 37 victims," he added.
DMP Tejgaon zone Deputy Commissioner Harun-Ur-Rashid said that the members of this gang used to work at JKG Healthcare, which was approved by the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR).
"But they left the job on April 12 and started doing the mishaps with help of the internet," he added.
"They started giving advertisements of two companies named Booking BD and Health Care, claiming that they collect samples of Covid-19 patients from their home and test the samples at their own lab," Harun-Ur-Rashid further said.
