Youth kills elder brother for only Tk100
Sources involved in the investigation said the accused murderer is a drug addict
A youth has allegedly murdered his elder brother for only Tk100 in Dhaka.
The deceased is Jibon Ghosh, 29, and the accused murderer is Rajib Ghosh, 23. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in a shop named Jibon Food Fantasy in the capital's North Mugda area.
According to police, Rajib got mad at Jibon after the elder refused to give him Tk100 on Thursday. Later, they got involved in a scuffle and Jibon slapped Raib on the face. In retaliation, Rajib came back after some time and hit Jibon on the back of his head with a piece of brick, killing him.
Their father Narayan Ghosh filed a case with the Sobuzbag police station on Friday. Later that day, police arrested Rajib after evaluating CCTV camera footage of the incident.
Rajib confessed to the crime in front of police during interrogation. On Saturday, he gave a confessional statement to the court.
Sobuzbag Zone Senior Assistant Commissioner Rashed Hasan said Jibon looked after the shop as his father is an old man. Quite often, Rajib used to ask for pocket money from Jibon. The elder brother did not like it and they had a problem for a long time regarding the issue.
Sources involved in the investigation said Rajib is a drug addict. He used to steal money from the shop every day. After Jibon slapped him, he brought a piece of brick and hit his elder brother on the head.
After killing Jibon, Rajib shut the shop down. He threw the brick and keys of the shop into a manhole and then went home and took a shower. He kept pretending that he knew nothing about the incident.
The police seized the brick used for murder and his t-shirt based on the confessional statement.
Police also said that earlier, Rajib had left his home on April 27 and later said he had been kidnapped. Using his cellphone, he sought Tk5 lakh in ransom from his family.
But when the family did not pay, he returned home after a few days.
