Members of the Coast Guard in separate drives seized 6.5 lakh metres of banned current nets and adulterated chemicals from Puranbazar area in the city on Monday afternoon.
Chandpur Coast Guard Station Commander Lieutenant Faisal Bin Rashid said based on secret information, they conducted a drive in the area and seized the banned fishing nets around 12pm.
Later, in another drive, they seized substantial quantity of adulterated chemicals from a godown in the afternoon. Executive Magistrate Azizun Nahar was present during the drive.
The value of the seized current nets is around Tk 1.2 crore. The seized nets and chemicals were destroyed in fire, he added.
