EWU online research seminar on Rohingya genocide in Myanmar held

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) has organised a research seminar titled "Rohingya Persecutions in Myanmar: Ethnic Cleansing or Genocide? A Theoretical and Empirical Study."
It was held on Wednesday through Google Meet app, reads a press release.
Md Pizuar Hossain, senior lecturer, Department of Law at East West University (EWU), spoke at the seminar, while it was conducted by Professor Dr Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the same university.
The speaker presented both qualitative and quantitative data of his study and made a comprehensible distinction between ethnic cleansing and genocide from the current context to the Rohingya crisis, it reads.
"On the basis of Dr Gregory H Stanton's 10-stage model of genocide and the patterns of crimes committed against the Rohingya ethnic community in Myanmar, he argued that the Rohingya persecutions clearly bear the hallmarks of genocide," reads the press statement.
After the presentation, a lively question and answering session also held on the occasion.
At the end of the seminar, Professor Dr Muhammed Shahriar Haque, executive director of EWUCRT also spoke to the audiences.
A numerical number of faculty members, officers and students of EWU participated in this online seminar, the press statement adds.
