EU expresses concern over section 43 of Digital Security Act
"In tackling cybercrimes, we hope, the Digital Security Act will not limit freedom of expression and freedom of the press," she said
Rensje Teerink, ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh, expressed her concerns over several provisions of section 43 of the Digital Security Act concerning “search, seizure, and arrest without warrant".
"In tackling cybercrimes, we hope, the Digital Security Act will not limit freedom of expression and freedom of the press," she said, adding that they had a successful discussion with law minister Anisul Huq.
"I have assured them that the Digital Security Act has been formulated for ensuring cybersecurity and fighting cybercrimes," said Anisul at his residential office after a meeting with an EU delegation on Sunday.
"This law was not formulated to suppress the freedom of the press and freedom of speech," he added.
