The motorcyclists started off on a course from TSC to Dhanmondi Science Lab in the city
In the spirit of approaching International Women's Day, female bikers and volunteers today gathered at the TSC area in Dhaka University to raise awareness against oppression of women and children.
The event was organised jointly by the first ever association of female motorcyclists in the country, Bangladesh Women Rider Club, and Manusher Jonno Foundation.
Carrying placards with the slogan, let us immediately stop raping and killing women and children, female riders assembled at the venue with their motorcycles and scooters on the eve of the International Women's Day to be celebrated on March 8.
The event started with an open discussion and a cultural performance.
One of the organisers, Ishrat Khan Mojlish, president of Bangladesh Women Riders Club, said, "The culture of abuse has shifted from women to children now. The environment is not safe for us anymore. We have to take a stand against this."
"Women also have a role to play in society, and we have to assure a better place for our children to grow up in," she added.
At 3pm, the motorcyclists started off on a course from the TSC area to the Dhanmondi Science Lab area and then headed back towards the TSC where the rally ended.
