First generation DSE member Mohammad Ali passes away
He was one of the few Bengali entrepreneurs to establish textile and jute mills before the liberation
Mohammad Ali, a first generation member of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), also the father of DSE Director Mohammad Shahjahan, has passed away on Tuesday.
The 90-year-old capital market personality was suffering from old-age complications.
The DSE authority expressed their condolence and prayed for the peace of the demised soul.
Mohammad Ali, began his brokerage career in 1960s with a membership at the then East Pakistan Stock Exchange. The membership later turned into brokerage firm Jahan Securities Ltd. It is currently run by his five sons who have three sisters.
Mohammad Ali was one of the few Bengali entrepreneurs to establish textile and jute mills here before the liberation. He was the chairman of Madina Jute Mill and Shamsher Jute Mill.
He served the exchange for a long time as councillor when it resumed operation after the independence of Bangladesh.
He was buried at his countryside house at Narshingdi dirstrict.
