Four people sent to jail for illegal logging

A Chattogram court on Monday sent four people to jail for illegal logging in a reserve forest in the district's Fatikchari upazila.
Judicial Magistrate Begum Shusmita Ahmed's court passed the order rejecting bail prayers of the accused, said a press release.
The accused are Md Najim, Saheb Mia, Md Taiyab, and Mofiz.
Md Ismail Hossain of Hathazari Range under the Chattogram North Forest Department filed a case against five people on September 25.
According to the case statement, the accused entered the reserve forest area under Shovonchari beat in Fatikchari upazila of Hathazari range and tried to fell trees in a bid to smuggle those.
"Four of the accused appeared before the court on Monday with bail prayers. But the court rejected the bail prayers and sent them to jail," said Chattogram Divisional Forest Officer Md Bakhtiyar Nur Siddiqui.
However, another accused in the case, Nazim Uddin, is on the run, he added.
