Govt working to bring other Bangabandhu killers to book: Home minister
The government has information about the whereabouts of two of the five absconding killers
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said the government is working to apprehend the remaining five people involved in the murder of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"We have certain information about the whereabouts of two murderers. But we are trying to bring all of them to the country. Once they are brought, they will be hanged too," he said.
The minister said this at his residence in Dhanmondi while receiving 2,000 relief packages for the poor from the Shippers' Council of Bangladesh.
"This is a gift to the people of the country for Mujib Year from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he added.
He also urged people to stay at home and not to go outside unless there is an emergency.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Shippers' Council of Bangladesh Chairman Md Rezaul Karim was also present at the event.
Earlier on Sunday midnight, Captain (retd) Abdul Mazed was hanged for his involvement in the murder of Bangabandhu and most of his family members in 1975.
On April 7, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of DMP arrested Mazed from the Mirpur area in the capital.
The next day, President Abdul Hamid rejected a mercy petition filed by Mazed. Earlier on that day, a Dhaka court issued his death warrant.
