‘Gunfight’ kills alleged mugger in Hatirpool
One pistol and four bullets were recovered from them
An alleged mugger was shot dead while another sustained bullet injury in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the capital's Hatirpool area early today.
The deceased was identified as Shoshan Mitra, 42, son of Kanailal Mitra, said Company Commander of RAB-2 Police Superintendent Mohiuddin Faruki.
Three muggers riding a motorbike snatched a bag from a man in front of Lab Aid Hospital around 12:45am.
Hearing hue and cry, a petrol team of RAB chased the motorbike.
When the bike reached Hatirpool area, the thugs opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliate.
Two of them – Hasan and Shoshan – got injured while another managed to flee the spot.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where duty doctors declared Shoshan dead.
One pistol and four bullets were recovered from them.
