HC directs Shimul Biswas to surrender
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan issued the order on Monday after rejecting his bail petition
The High Court directed Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to surrender at a lower court within two weeks in a case for obstructing police from discharging their government duties.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan issued the order on Monday after rejecting his bail petition.
Earlier on May 4, 2019, Shimul Biswas was released from jail on bail, nearly 15 months after his arrest in the cases filed against him.
Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas had been accused in a case for obstructing police from discharging their government duty during a procession, taken place as BNP Chief Khaleda Zia appeared at the court in a graft case on November 16, 2017.
Defense Lawyer Masud Rana claimed that Shimul Biswas’s name did not appear in the ejahar filed against him with the Shahbagh Police Station. However, when his name came in the charge sheet in November 20, 2018, he appealed to the High Court for bail in the case.
Senior Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Masud Rana, and Advocate Shah Nabila Kashfi was present as defense lawyers, while Jahid Sarwar Kajal, Deputy Attorney General, appeared at the hearing on behalf of the state at the High Court.
