Husband gets life imprisonment for rape

The man raped her several times at the hotel

A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a rape case filed by his wife. The convict, Apurba Sarkar, will also have to pay Tk50,000 as a fine.

According to the case docket, Apurba helped the girl to get enrolled in a training institute in Dhaka. He also promised to marry her and arrange a job for her after her training was complete.

On April 11, 2011, Apurba picked the girl from the institute and took her to Mohakhali. He proposed marriage to the girl and she accepted. They then spent the night together in a hotel room.

The man raped her several times at the hotel.

They got married at Dhakeshwari Temple on April 13 that year.

Apurba had promised to take his wife to his home once she had completed her training course, but in 2013 he outright denied that he was even married to her.

The wife subsequently filed a rape case on March 21, 2013. A total of 10 witnesses gave statements before court during the hearing. Apurba was found guilty, and Judge Khademul Kayes of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 passed the sentence.
