The criteria fixed by Assam to determine Indian citizenship has many loopholes, thinks Professor of Dhaka University and International Relations analyst, Amena Mohsin.
Amena Mohsin told The Business Standard that the concept is utterly wrong that Bangla speaking people and the people who could not show the parental citizenship certificate are Bangladeshi.
“There are many people in Bangladesh whose parents don’t have Bangladeshi citizenship as it was not required here. It does not mean that they are not Bangladeshi.”
On Bangladesh pushback protest, Prof Amena said, “It is a matter of serious concern. We have to raise our voice if these people are deported from Assam and pushed into Bangladesh. Bangladesh must make its position clear and continue diplomatic discussion with India in this regard.”
“Though India is claiming it as their internal matter, if Bangladesh does not take necessary measures, it may face another challenge like Rohingya crisis”, Amena Mohsin concludes.
