Not sky, the broken crane fell from adjacent shipyard
The forty-kilogram metal object that was thought to have fallen from the sky in Sitakunda's Bhatiyari union belongs to a crane from adjacent Ferdous Steel Corporation shipyard, according to the police and local authority.
"After examination, it was confirmed to be a part of a ship and must have travelled from one of the shipyards in that area." Said Hasan Muhammad Shawkat Ali, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Counter Terrorism Unit.
"Since there are many shipyards located in this area it is normal for small metal objects flying here. But it is for the first time that a metal object this big flew one and a half kilometre distance," said Bhatiyari Union Parishad Chairman Najim Uddin.
Ferdous Wahid, director of Ferdous shipyard said, "To avoid risk people of that area were moved to safety as break down of a big crane took place at the shipyard yesterday."
"But it is still not confirmed if the broken metal that flew there was from our compound," he added.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, a metal object suddenly fell beside a home at Purbahasnabad of Bhatiyari union.
The Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police excavated the object in the evening.
