OC show-caused over victim's marriage with rapist in police station
OC Obaidul Hauque was asked to explain why he did it in the police station
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station was served a show-cause notice for his alleged involvement in forcing a rape victim to marry one of the rapists today.
OC Obaidul Hauque was asked to explain why he did it in the police station.
"The district police formed a three-member investigation committee led by Gautam Kumar Biswas, superintendent of police (SP), when news of the housewife's gang-rape and harassment by Obaidul came to its attention through media reports," Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, SP, Pabna district told the reporters this afternoon.
The committee also asked the authority concerned for accepting a rape case, added Rafiqul.
The victim of Pabna Sadar upazila is a housewife and a mother of three.
Russel Ahmed and his four accomplices of the same upazila, on August 29, allegedly abducted and gang-raped for four days.
After escaping, the woman had shared the incident with her relatives and was admitted to Pabna General Hospital on September 5.
Next, the victim submitted a written allegation to Pabna Sadar Police Station. Police arrested Russel but did not file any case.
To tone down the seriousness of the crime, police forced the woman to divorce her husband and marry Russel on Friday night at 10pm.
Obaidul denied the allegation, saying the woman submitted a rape allegation but withdrew it later.
"I heard about the marriage but it did not happen in the police station," Obaidul claimed.
