Only 29.39% users satisfied with BBS statistics quality: BIDS survey
The report states that about 64.34% of users expressed satisfaction with the accuracy of official BBS statistics, and 25.58% expressed dissatisfaction
Only 29.39% users are satisfied with the quality of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data, according to a recent survey.
The survey, conducted by Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) with input from 1,333 users, also reveals that 55.59% users are somewhat satisfied with the statistics, while 11.64% are somewhat unsatisfied, and 3.39% are totally unsatisfied.
The survey report titled 'User Satisfaction Survey (USS 2024)' was released on Thursday (26 September).
The report states that about 64.34% of users expressed satisfaction with the accuracy of official BBS statistics, and 25.58% expressed dissatisfaction.
Approximately, 54.36% of users are satisfied with the timeliness of official statistics while 38.56% are dissatisfied.
On average, 77.06% of users expressed satisfaction with the relevance of official statistics, and 16.81% expressed dissatisfaction.
Besides, 47.88% of respondents said they were satisfied with the statistics frequency on average and 42.88% were not satisfied.
Compared to the USS 2022, findings of the USS 2024 reveal that a higher proportion of users are satisfied with data accuracy, timeliness, and relevance, with a few exceptions.
According to the survey, approximately 68.57% of the respondents use population, demographic, and vital statistics more frequently, followed by income and poverty statistics (60.77%) and national accounts statistics (54.91%) published by the BBS.
In contrast, information and communication technology (17.18%) statistics, and crime and judicial statistics (7.88%) are the least utilised.
Interestingly, users with a PhD degree or from academic backgrounds exhibit similar usage patterns.
The latest findings also reveal that the percentage of users has increased compared to the USS 2022, except for the population, demographic, and vital statistics.
Approximately 40.98% of the respondents use the BBS data with no periodicity. The rate was 46.57% in 2022.
