Govt may consider if Khaleda appeals for parole: Obaidul
Khaleda Zia has been in jail since February 8, 2018 for in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case
Awami League General Secretary, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the government might consider giving parole to Khaleda Zia if she applies for it.
He made the remark at a regular briefing at the secretariat today.
On Saturday during a rally, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government cannot stop people from demanding Khaleda Zia's release through its repressive acts.
"The government thinks it can obstruct the movement seeking Khaleda Zia's release by oppression but they [govt] have forgotten that one cannot one's stay in power through such oppression. The just demand of people can never be put down by oppression," Fakhrul added.
Khaleda Zia has been in jail since February 8, 2018 for in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Meanwhile, in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, Khaleda Zia was sentenced to seven years as special court convicted her on October 27 last year.
Right now, Khaleda Zia has at least 36 cases ongoing against her including the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption Case and Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University since April 1 last year.
