The agency has been accused of taking money from people – Tk8 lakh each – on the promise of getting them a job in Japan
Northern Recruiting Agency in the capital's Mirpur area and fined the company Tk10 lakh.
The agency has been accused of taking money from people – Tk8 lakh each – on the promise of getting them a job in Japan.
"As per the deal signed between Japan and Bangladesh, Japan will recruit labourers and employees from Bangladesh. The government has appointed 10 recruiting agencies to carry out the job," said RAB's Major Jahangir Alam.
"The Northern Recruiting Agency was not one of the agencies appointed by the government. This agency illegally published advertisements in various dailies, and duped people into giving them money on the fake promise of sending them to Japan," he added.
Several complaints were filed against the agency at the expatriate welfare ministry, said the RAB official, adding that the law enforcement agency had carried out the raid based on those complaints.
The total fine was imposed and distributed equally among three officials of the company – Director Nigar Sultana Tk3.5 lakh, Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid TK3.5 lakh, and Manager Babul Sarwar TK3.5 lakh.
Masuma Parvin, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, was present during the raid.
