Report: 298 Killed, 860 injured in accidents during Eid
Nearly all of these accidents occurred on highways across the country
A report from the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association (BPWA) has revealed that a total of 298 people were killed and 860 injured in 256 accidents on rail, road, and waterways.
Secretary General of Dhaka Reporters Unity, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury organized a press conference on Saturday to brief media about the BPWA report.
“Among the accidents that took place, a total of 232 accidents occurred on highways across the country from 30th May till the last date of Eid holidays, leaving 273 people dead and 849 people injured,” Mozammel said while speaking at the event.
Mozammel however said that the current road scenario is comparatively better than the situation during the previous Eid holidays. New launches have been added to existing waterway routes, and several pairs of lines and bogies have been interlinked in the railway routes.
“As the holidays for Eid was long, people did not face much hurdles during their journeys. So they were able to reach their home without much rush,” he further said.
