Renovation works are being done by digging a portion of the road near Elenga on the highway
Thousands of passengers have been suffering as they got stuck in a 10-kilometer tailback on the Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday afternoon due to the renovation work in Elenga and excessive pressure of vehicles.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stuck on the highway stretching from Analiabari of Kalihati upazila to the Ashekpur Bypass of Sadar upazila in Tangail since morning.
Tangail traffic police Sergeant Rubayet Hossain said a renovation work has been undergoing by digging road near Elenga of Kalihati upazila on the highway.
Besides, the portion of the highway witnessed extra pressure of vehicles due to ongoing admission test at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, marking the situation worse here since morning, he added.
To ease the nagging traffic jam, Tangail district police and traffic police jointly have been working to restore the normalcy on the highway as soon as possible, said Rubayet.
Passengers complained of immense sufferings and consumption of extra time to reach destination.
