Locals spotted a Royal Bengal Tiger in Sundarbans near the locality after 8 years.
The tiger was spotted on the banks of the Chuna river in the Munshiganj Kolabari area under Satkhira Range in the western Sundarbans on Tuesday.
According to witnesses, they heard the tiger's roar at around 11am on Tuesday and followed it and saw the tiger next to the canal, where it stayed for a while, then went deeper into the forest again.
The locals reckoned that the tiger moved into the locality in search of food and it is still in the area.
Anwar Hossain, in-charge of the Munshiganj camp of the forest department, said, "I visited the area with the members of the Tiger team after learning about the incident."
Hossain said preparations have been made to prevent the tiger from coming into the locality. Locals have been told to be vigilant.
He said the last time a tiger came to the locality from the Sundarbans was on 22 July 2012 in Golakhali area of Shyamnagar upazila of the district. After that, the locals did not see any more tigers in this area.
