Sundarbans fire brought under control
The cause of the fire is not yet known
A fire broke out in the Dhansagar station area under Chandpai range of the Sundarbans East Zone on Monday afternoon.
The fire was brought under control about two hours after it broke out.
Dhansagar station official Faridul Islam said the fire originated around 12 am. He also claimed that about 3 decimal forest lands were burnt in the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, he speculated that the fire may have originated from cigarettes.
SM Abdul Wadud, station officer of Sharankhola Fire Service Station, said, "We arrived on the scene after being notified through the forest department. It took us about two hours to bring the fire under control.
Citing locals, station official SM Abdul Wadud added that some unruly boys and girls entered the forest around noon. He speculated that the fire may also have originated from there.
