The last election of the CBA was held in 2017, after which two years have passed without another one being held
The High Court has asked the Department of Labour to take measures to hold the election to the Chattogram Port's Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA) as soon as possible.
The court passed the order on Sunday after hearing a writ petition asking for the election.
Advocate AM Amin Uddin and Advocate Rafsan Al Alvi appeared for the writ petitioner.
Former vice president of CBA Abdur Rahman Sikdar filed the writ.
There is an obligation to hold the CBA election in every two years, according to the writ.
The last election to the CBA was held on August 24, 2017, after which two years have passed without another one being held.
The present chairman of the committee Abul Mansur is yet to take any step to hold the election, it said.
An application was submitted to the Department of Labour to arrange for the election. Later, the department gave the committee 45 days to hold the election.
However, after 45 days passed without any election taking place, said the writ.
