Two people were killed in ‘gunfights’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gazipur and Chattogram early Thursday.
In Gazipur, the deceased was identified as a suspected drug dealer Sujon Mia, son of late Chan Mia, hailing from Arichpur area in Tongi.
But, the identity of the person killed in Chattogram could not be known immediately.
Being tipped off, a team of RAB-1 conducted a drive in Gazipur’s Salna area around 2am, said Assistant Director of RAB-1 Kamruzzaman.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the alleged criminals started firing on them, triggering the ‘gunfight.’
Sujon got injured during the clash while others managed to flee the scene.
He was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The RAB members seized two shotguns, two shooter guns, nine rounds kartuzs and 1200 pieces of yaba tablet from the spot, according to Kamruzzaman.
Meanwhile, a man was killed in another gunfight with the members of RAB-7 at Kotbaria village in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram.
A group of miscreants attacked a patrol team of the elite force around 4am, forcing them to retaliate, claimed RAB-7 Media Officer Mashkur Rahman.
After the gunfight, the law enforcers found the bullet-hit body of the man, which was then sent to a local hospital for autopsy.
However, other members of the group managed to escape.
RAB recovered an AK-22 rifle and 63 rounds of bullets from there.
