Innovation helped Beximco fight off pandemic
Beximco Group Chairman ASF Rahman said that the group has faced coronavirus fallouts on its business by innovation and diversification, a move that has paid them off to offset the impacts of the deadly Covid-19 partially.
In a statement to its 65,000 employees on Thursday, he said that as a business organization, their answer to the unique threat posed by Covid-19 was in three-fold: innovation, collaboration, and diversification.
"Our pharmaceutical branch has employed its world-class research infrastructure into developing potential medicines to treat the disease. Beximco Pharma has become the first company in the world to have launched the generic Remdesivir, the only drug to have been proven to be potent against Covid-19," he said.
He also said that Beximco Textile was faced with extremely limited options, as the global RMG supply chain has completely collapsed due to the crisis.
However, in a span of just two months, the textile division has created a brand-new Beximco PPE Division with the expert inputs from the pharma division for quality assurance.
Beximco PPE has already exported the first shipment of 6.5 million world-class personal protective equipment (PPE) gowns to the United States, said Rahman.
He went on saying that both measures have not only been immensely successful as a business strategy but also drawn positive attention and notes of praise from around the world.
At the beginning of the letter, the Beximco group chairman said, while Beximco is trying to cope with Covid-19, there is no denying that the global shutdown put in place in response to the pandemic has affected them painfully, like almost everyone else.
"The economic slowdown has had immediate and inevitable consequences on our businesses and exports, which may warrant difficult decisions at different stages in the future," he said.
