Beijing can test nearly 1 million people a day for the novel coronavirus the spokesperson for Beijing's Health Commission said on Sunday.
"The maximum daily testing capacity has been increased from 100,000 to more than 230,000 samples," said Gao Xiaojun, a spokesperson for Beijing's Health Commission, reports the CNN.
Gao explained that the tests can be carried out by collecting samples from five people, pooling them together, and testing them in one test tube.
Health authorities in Wuhan used a similar pool testing method which enabled the city to test over 9.8 million people in less than three weeks.
