15 more Covid-19 deaths, 1,600 new cases reported in Bangladesh

Bangladesh confirmed 15 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Thursday 8am.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,608, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.
During the same period, 1,600 people tested positive for Covid-19 which takes the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country to 3,84,559.
Among the deceased, nine were men and six were women. Moreover, nine of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram and one each from Sylhet and Khulna divisions.
All of them died in different hospitals across the country.
In the last 24 hours, 14,104 samples were tested in 109 labs across the country. So far 21,26,552 samples have been tested in the country.
The latest day's infection rate was 11.34% of the total tests, although the overall rate in the country was date was 18.08%. The death rate stands at 1.46%.
Meanwhile, 1,780 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,99,229 with a 77.81% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,314 of the total deceased were men, and 1,294 were women.
The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
