2 DMCH staff test Covid-19 positive
The employees who worked in the pathology department fell sick two days ago
Two technologists of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital were diagnosed with Covid-19 positive on Thursday.
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Assistant Director (Finance) Dr Alauddin Al Azad said they worked in the pathology department of the hospital.
Of them, one worked on a daily basis while the other one is a government employee of the hospital, he added.
Dr Alauddin said the employees fell sick two days ago and then went through tests for Covid-19.
He said, they were asked to stay in home quarantine as their condition remains stable. They have been asked to keep in touch with DMCH if their condition deteriorates.
"The hospital also conducted surgeries of three to four Covid-19 infected patients for their other illness. Of them, one or two were aware of their coronavirus infection while the others were unaware," Dr Alauddin added.
The DMCH has dedicated an operation theatre for coronavirus patients. Emergency surgery room No 106 was kept for Covid-19 patients, said Alauddin.
Meanwhile, the DMCH sources said that the pathology department conducts around 52 types of tests including CBC and dengue.
Only the patients admitted at the hospital have their tests done from this lab, the sources added.
The sources also said that if they would get the blood samples from the wards, they could have sent the reports back to respective wards.
But, instead of sending blood samples, the wards send the patients with prescription directly to the pathology lab.
They believe that if the blood samples were sent at the lab, the outbreak of Covid-19 could have been curbed to some extent in the hospital.
We have informed the matter to the DMCH authorities, they added.
