Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra in association with Melton Travel Centre organised a special flight of Singapore Airlines which has evacuated 175 stranded Bangladeshis today from Sydney.
The flight is expected to arrive at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today at 10:15 pm (local time) after a stopover at Singapore, according to a press release issued by the High Commissioner for Bangladesh to Canberra.
All passengers were notified to carry up-to-date Covid-19 free certificates issued within three days before departure and procedure and requirements of home/institutional quarantine were relayed.
With the second flight, the majority of stranded Bangladeshis have returned. Based on the available information on the possible resumption of commercial flights to a few destinations from Dhaka, imperative for any such special flights in future to evacuate stranded Bangladeshis from Australia has reduced significantly.
Bangladesh High Commission thanked the appropriate authorities of Bangladesh and Australia for the cooperation in organising the flight.
The earlier evacuation flight organised by the High Commission left Melbourne on May 8.
