Bangladesh reports 428 new virus cases, five deaths
All five individuals died in different hospitals across the country
Bangladesh confirmed five more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,379, said a press release issued by the health directorate.
Meantime, 428 people tested positive for Covid-19, raising the total caseload in the country to 544,544.
The latest day's infection rate was 2.65% of the total tests, though the overall rate till date was 13.66%. The death rate stands at 1.54%.
Among the latest day's victims, four were men, and one was a woman. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country. Four of the deceased hailed from Dhaka and one from Khulna.
Meanwhile, 16,152 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,987,676 samples have been tested in the country so far.
In the past 24-hour, 911 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 493,798 with a 90.68% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows 6,339 of the total deceased were men and 2,040 were women.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year while the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
