Covid-19 cases on the rise again
During the Eid holidays, the number of samples tested had dropped to 3,684

Immediately following the Eid holidays, the infection tally of the novel coronavirus started to climb as the number of daily new cases reached 2,654 on Wednesday. The number of new cases was 886 just three days ago.
The new cases were logged after 11,160 samples were tested in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning – at 86 labs across the country.
The cases have increased in line with the increased number of sample tests. During the Eid holidays, the number of sample tests had dropped to 3,684. However, the infection rate has been steady for the last two months.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh confirmed 33 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
"With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,267 and the total number of infections stood at 246,674," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana said at the daily online Covid-19 bulletin on Wednesday.
"Of the dead patients, 25 were men and eight were women. Moreover, 18 of them hailed from Dhaka, 9 from Chattogram, one, each, from Khulna, Rajshahi and Barishal, and three from Rangpur," she added.
Thirty-one of them have died in different hospitals and two at their respective residences.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19's victims shows that 2,574 were men, 78.79 percent of the total, and 693 were women – 21.21 percent.
While talking about district-wise fatalities, Dr Nasima said that: 1,567 hailed from Dhaka division, 784 from Chattogram, 238 from Khulna, 199 from Rajshahi, 154 from Sylhet, 128 from Barishal, 127 from Rangpur, and 70 from Mymensingh district.
According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims, as of Wednesday, the majority of patients that died – 1,526 – were aged sixty and above.
The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with, respectively, 938 and 452 people. The rest of the people are within the age group of 31-40 with 214 people, 21-30 with 87, 11-20 with 32 people and under ten with 18 people.
A total of 1,890 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 141,750.
There are 15,240 general dialysis beds available in the country for Covid-19 treatment where 3,922 people are already admitted, and 11,318 beds are available for treatment.
Moreover, there are 548 ICU facilities in the country and 246 ICU beds are available for the treatment of novel coronavirus infected patients in the country.
The virus has killed 704,645 people globally and infected 18,720,473 so far.
