Covid-19 cases cross 12,000-mark in Chattogram
The number of Covid-19 infections in Chattogram has crossed the 12,000-mark after 399 more patients tested positive for the virus today.
In the last 24 hours, three people died from the novel coronavirus in the district while 57 people recovered.
"Samples of 2,522 people were tested in the last 24 hours and 399 came back positive for coronavirus," Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told The Business Standard.
Of the infected, 313 are from the port city and 86 are from different upazilas of Chattogram district.
The civil surgeon further informed that 41 out of 144 samples tested at the Chattogram University lab came back positive, while 25 out of 140 samples tested in the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) were positive. Besides, 437 samples of (BITID) were tested in Dhaka, of which 37 were positive.
Chattogram Medical College Hospital's lab tested 206 samples, of which 23 were positive for Covid-19. Of the 1,314 samples of this lab that were tested in Dhaka, 231 came back positive.
Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi also said 38 samples were tested at the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) lab, six of which were Covid-19 positive.
Of the 237 samples tested at Imperial Hospital, 36 were positive. Six samples were tested at Cox's Bazar Medical College lab but no positive cases were reported.
So far, a total of 12,330 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Chattogram.
