Covid-19 claims 31 more lives, 1,007 new cases

Bangladesh logged 31 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Thursday 8am.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,718, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the meantime, 1,007 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 519,905.
The latest day's infection rate was 6.55 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 15.67 percent. The death rate stands at 1.48 percent.
966 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 464,446 with an 89.33 percent recovery rate.
Among the latest day's victims, 21 were men and 10 were women. 29 of them died in different hospitals across the country while two at home.
Moreover, 18 of them hailed from Dhaka, 6 from Chattogram, two each from Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Rangpur and one from Barishal division.
Meanwhile, 15,381 samples were tested in 181 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,317,810 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
