Cox’s Bazar mayor, 4 family members tested Covid-19 positive
164 samples were tested on Saturday. Of them, 29 came positive including three follow up reports
Mayor of Cox's Bazar municipality Mujibur Rahman and four members of his family tested positive for coronavirus.
Mujibur Rahman is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League in the district.
Directorate General of Health Services in Cox's Bazar said the samples were tested at Cox's Bazar Medical College and Hospital's lab and came positive Saturday evening.
Mayor Mujibur Rahman said, "I may have been affected by coronavirus while in the public service. My family members have been infected by me. Please pray for us."
The principal of Cox's Bazar Medical College and Hospital Dr Anupam Borua said, "164 samples were tested on Saturday. Of them, 29 came positive including three follow up reports. Among them, 21 are from Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila and one from Chakaria upazila."
"One patient each from Lohagara upazila of Chattogram, Bandarban Sadar, Ruma and Thanchi upazilas were also tested positive. Three others from Chakaria upazila, who tested positive before, came positive in the new report too," he added.
Cox's Bazar administration and civil surgeon office said, "640 people including 27 Rohingyas tested positive for Covid-19 in the district and 14 died."
Earlier, on May 28, councillors of ward no-2 Mizanur Rahman Mizan and ward no-10 Salajuddin Setu of the municipality tested positive for coronavirus.
